43 Women Graduated from ‘MARIA CENTER’ – the Economic Empowerment Program of Life Builders Initiative- By Winifred Momoh

Economic Empowerment is one of the seven thematic work areas of Life Builders Initiative.

In collaboration with a Catholic Mission- Missionary Sisters of our Lady of Apostles (OLA), an economic empowerment center- ‘MARIA CENTER’ was born in March 2016. It started as a vocational training for internally displaced and other vulnerable women @ Camp David in Area 1 IDP camp. So far, 104 Women have been empowered with economically viable skills such as beads making, soap making and commercial catering.

  • For the first set of trainees on this empowerment program, a graduation ceremony/award of recognition was held on, 23rd June 2016 to honor the women who have distinguished themselves through their hand work and hard work. It was also a time to formally open the new workshop donated by CARITAS NIGERIA and which is to be used as a vocational training center for tailoring skills.
  • The 43 women graduated also used this medium to showcase their various talents as they had their wares displayed to the visitors who gladly supported and encouraged them with their patronage.
