Thematic Area Focus 7 - Societal Integration, Life Builders Initiative for Education and Societal Integration

FOCUS 7: SOCIETAL INTEGRATION

Rehabilitation of internally displaced persons and facilitating their return to their homes or places of habitual residence or integration into new host communities is one of our priority work areas in Life Builders Initiative. We aim to instil in the minds of the poor, less privileged and internally displaced people as well as other youth and women groups a new and better approach to life other than a tendency towards crime and violence.
In 2014, the camp for children aged 8-17years had 324 children in attendance including those from IDP camps because we believe the poor should never be ostracized neither the less fortunate be isolated.
We are currently developing a Camp site in the FCT christened 'Camp David'. A place to develop children into responsible adulthood equipped with the right attitude and poise for greatness.

1. Nationalism, Ethics and Values Orientation

As part of the goal of ensuring proper integration of the poor, underserved and internally displaced persons into the society, we train them on social and work-place ethics and values as a way of empowering them to be better citizens of Nigeria.

2. Counselling Centers in all IDP Camps for healing and de-radicalizing of wrong perspectives

We also work towards establishing a counselling centre in all IDPs camps for healing and de-radicalizing persons with wrong perspectives.

3. Identification/Documentation Project

Our Goal:

  1. Working with relevant agencies and IDP officials, carry out the process of identifying and documenting idps in the federal capital territory.
  2. Provide an IDP Identity card for all identified IDP.
  3. We have already began this process at the Area 1 and New Kuchingoro IDP camp, providing ID cards for over 1200 IDPs.
  4. We have also developed a partnership with the Nigerian Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and have enrolled over 800 IDPs.

Opportunities for Partnership

  • Each ID card cost N100.
  • We estimate that will be producing ID cards for 50, 000 IDPs.
  • Meaning that we will need N5 million to produce all the IDs.
